Objectives of Colposcopic Examination

  • (1) To identify and assess suspected neoplastic lesions with respect to size, extent and severity of disease.
  • (2) To take sample of endocervical canal by curettage or brush.
  • (3) To identify the most severe lesion obtain biopsy.
  • (4) To correlate the results of the pap smear, cervical biopsy.
  • (5) To differentiate achieved whether Ca Cervix, cancer precursor or normal cervix.


  • • the most common indication is an abnormal pap smear, diagnosis of high-grade squamous intraepithelial lesion.
  • • women with high risk or HPV detected
  • • It is part of the routine examination of cancer cervix screening
